Home of the Civ V Unofficial Patch, G&K Enhanced, and Vanilla Enhanced Mod

Update

Things going on with work and family earlier this week delayed my progress on version 3.4 (Leaders). I’m starting on it again, and expect to finish next week.

Do you consider new ideas to gameplay? I was discussing war with my friend and we’d thought it cool that military skirmishes could and often did happen without declarations of war throughout history – any thoughts on the implications of such a change in Civ5, all expansions considered?

Regarding gameplay, I often find that my military units are useless once I’ve destroyed my current enemy or defended whichever onslaught – after barbarians are gone, I find they’re mostly used for zoning and intimidation. But if it were possible to have small battles with other civilizations without a full declaration of war (with a decent diplomatic penalty, of course), perhaps supported by a larger system of diplomatic ‘states’ – say instead of just Unknown, Peace, War, include a state for Known without combat restriction (trade allowed but combat unrestricted), Cease Fire (derivative of Peace / War where no combat is allowed but trade is restricted). War would be declared when any attack on a city is made, or when a player chooses to escalate the status to such.

As this would obviously be a sprawling and expansive change, I don’t expect you to take and do, but as a person who’s been working intimately with balance and the more intricate functions of the game, what are your thoughts?
